32 Great Ways to Reward Yourself

By Sabrina Espinal 7:30 am

Start a habit of giving yourself a gift. It doesn’t have to be after a big project or a big win, make it just because your heart and soul deserve it.

TIPS FOR PICKING A REWARD

  • Don’t pick a reward that negates what you’ve just achieved. For example, if you’ve decluttered, don’t buy stuff as a reward. If you’ve sorted out a great morning routine don’t reward yourself with taking a nap!
  • Pick a relevant reward that is something to do with what you’ve just done – to reinforce your good work. For example, you’ve finally sorted your bedroom and organized it all – so treat yourself to an early night and enjoy the room a little!
  • Pick something that truly motivates you to get the job done. If you can look forward to something then it drives you to get the job finished that much quicker.
  • Make the reward something easy to achieve quickly – for example, don’t reward with a holiday if it’s going to take you a year to save up…
  • Reward yourself with a treat that’s on the same level as the task. Small rewards for small tasks, and large for large ones.
  • Remember, rewards don’t have to cost anything – you can get pleasure out of the most simple things if you allow yourself to really enjoy them.

32 IDEAS FOR WAYS TO REWARD YOURSELF

  • Enjoy a magazine and a coffee in peace and quiet for half an hour
  • Relax with a few favorite magazines
  • Run a hot bath with a good book and a relaxing bath foam/candle
  • Take a break. A holiday/day out etc… or simply some time away from everyday life
  • Book a meal out
  • Savor a nice glass of wine
  • Listen to a favorite music album
  • Watch a movie
  • Watch a TV program you have been meaning to watch for ages (or indulge in an entire box set!)
  • Go for a long walk
  • Go to a concert or the theatre
  • Try a new exercise class
  • Start a new hobby that you’ve always wanted to do
  • Take up a new sport
  • Sign up for a night class
  • Organize an evening out with friends
  • Delegate a task
  • Visit an exhibition / museum / gallery
  • Treat yourself to your favorite cake/chocolate
  • Go to a coffee shop and relax for a while with your favorite drink
  • Get a takeaway and take the night off cooking
  • Take a day off work
  • Spend time with a friend
  • Have a beauty treatment
  • Visit a spa/sauna
  • Have your nails done
  • Read a book
  • Have a child-free day/afternoon to do whatever you want
  • Have an early night
  • Get flowers / a plant for your home
  • Light a nice candle
  • Have a picnic in your local park

The list really is endless…

SO – HAS THIS LIST INSPIRED YOU TO REWARD YOURSELF AND ENJOY A FEW MORE TREATS IN YOUR LIFE GOING FORWARD?

Remember – treating yourself doesn’t have to be expensive or time-consuming. Even the smallest thing can boost your mood and make you more creative.

Review Your Year and Get Ready for Something New!

By Sabrina Espinal 3:54 pm

Let’s take a moment to look over your year. Each month has something worth remembering and capturing. And don’t worry, even a crazy year can have moments of magic.

LET’S GET STARTED:
One of the easiest ways to do this is to simply grab a notepad or journal and go through
your life from January through December:

  1. Go through your photos.
  2. Go through your calendar.
  3. Go through your social media images and/or posts.
  4. Remember to add training classes and/or life changes.
  5. Look through messages of your closest friends
  6. Go through everything that contains your life!

NEXT
Take 10 minutes and think of each month and write down what was happening in your life.

Don’t worry if you think you’re missing something. Events will begin to pop into your head once you start the process.

HOW DO YOU WANT TO FEEL?
I also look at my Core Desired Feelings (The Desire Map) and check-in with how I’m feeling. I think you would agree that feeling good is everything. My core desired feelings are Grace, Peace, Joy, Love, and Creativity. If you want to know how to identify your core desired feelings, pick up The Desire Map by Danielle LaPorte.

“Knowing how you want to feel is the most potent clarity you can have. Generating those feelings is the most powerful thing you can do with your life” – Danielle LaPorte.

Refresh Your Social Media And Brand

By Sabrina Espinal 5:05 pm

Your business card is not only your website and so are all of your social media sites. People do look at your social profiles and make decisions about you, your brand, and if they want to work with you. I will make a bold statement and say that gone are the days when you can have social media profiles that are not in harmony with your business.

PURGE CONTENT THAT NO LONGER REPRESENTS YOU

Go through the streams on each social network and delete posts that are no longer relevant to the new strategy or branding. Once you begin publishing new updates it should appear to be a smooth transition.

WRITE THE RIGHT BIO

Write a short and concise bio. Target areas to hit can be what you offer, how it helps someone, and a compelling or your tag line. The bio should be short and concise while giving key information about the brand that fans can find right away. The goal is to make it easy for fans to understand the company’s offerings without having to dig for it.

REVIEW AND UPDATE SOCIAL NETWORKS

Conduct a simple makeover on each social network’s pages. Change the “view” to what other’s see and determine if it is old and stale or new and fresh. Freshen up your networks like a mini-makeover.

REFRESH YOUR B

Just as a website needs design updating, so do your social networks. Create a fresh new look and feel for your brand’s social media presence, and mirror the design across all social media profiles that you will be working with. Consistency in social design is key for clean and professional branding.

RESOURCES AND DOWNLOADS

A great way to establish your brand as a credible resource is to create and manage lists or guides.

Design Your Own Morning Ritual

By Sabrina Espinal 6:14 pm

Make A Date Series
Each morning, I start my day with a morning ritual that I design to fit my needs. I enjoy waking early and having my own sacred time before the rest of the world wakes up.

How to design your own morning ritual:

First, always be flexible. Any routine can become stale and no longer inviting. Pick a general time to start each day. This will begin to build a habit and give you a natural consistency. Just knowing that this will be a soulful part of your day will bring you anticipation and joy.

If you wake up late, let it go for a day. This is your ritual and you can make or break the rules.

Step One

Select your time:

Mornings
Evenings
Weekends

Step Two

Pick your senses elements:

Beverage
Make your favorite beverage. Perhaps it’s a green tea, a flavored coffee, or a morning juice. It’s your choice!

Candles
Have various scents that speak to different moods. Vanilla, spice, sweet, and pine are just a few of the scents you might enjoy.

Oils or Body Sprays
If you don’t want to light a candle, you could opt for a splash of your favorite scent on your wrist or neck.

Music
Create multiple playlists on iTunes, Spotify, or your favorite music listening device.
Group your playlist songs together with songs that create a mood such as, meditation, nature sounds, background music, smooth jazz or your personal favorites. This will allow you to easily create multiple playlists that have 5-10 songs. Personally, I stay away from songs with lyrics so that my mind does not drift to unconsciously saying the lyrics.

Give yourself the option to play the music aloud or with headphones for a deeper journey into the sound.

Step Three

Flow into one or all of these options:

Sit and meditate with gratitude
Stretch and slowly exercise
Journal
Listen to an inspiring meditation app like Calm
Use art as your tool with watercolors or colored pens

Step Four

Make it fun. Make it peaceful.

This should never be difficult. Find a natural to look forward to this time even if it is just once a week.

Ritual Flow Options:

Journals and Planners
Start with gratitude. As the mood guides your write down thoughts and ideas that come to you in a notebook or journal.

Quick Content Marketing Strategy

By Sabrina Espinal 8:50 am

Are you lost in a content drought? It happens to everyone so cheer up, buttercup!

Let me share a quick practice to give you clarity and get your content back on your social feed. Use this exercise to write your next few social media posts or to think about future content ideas.

CORE AUDIENCE
You can have multiple core audiences for your social feeds and business, so select your general audience. You can come back and do the exercise later for a different audience. Right now, we just want to get you out of the content and posting drought!

WHAT WILL YOU DELIVER TO YOUR AUDIENCE
This can be a quick tip. An introduction. A tidbit about your business. A quote, freebie, behind the scenes, etc. Make it easy.

DESIRED OUTCOME FOR THE AUDIENCE
The outcome for them can be to feel informed, be uplifted, engage in a contest, share, etc.

HOW DO YOU WANT YOUR AUDIENCE TO FEEL
Glad they saw your post? Ready to share? Good? Empowered in information? You decide.

CALL TO ACTION
Not every “call to action” has to be a link to something. You decided if that is appropriate or not for your post. If you haven’t posted in weeks, I would suggest not posting a link to make a purchase.

HOW DO YOU WANT YOUR AUDIENCE TO THINK OF YOU/YOUR BRAND
What feelings do you hope they will feel after reading your post?

Apologize The Right Way When Your Brand Messes Up

By Sabrina Espinal 1:50 pm

“Oops, we didn’t mean to say that!”

That is not the way to respond when your brand inserts their foot into their mouth. Check out this great curated article from Powley and written by Michelle Garrett, writer, and PR expert.

“To set the stage, let’s look at how 2017 went for brands. I don’t know if it’s that more brands are making mistakes–or that more people now notice with social media there and always ready to spread the news—but it seems like there’s ALWAYS a company in the news for saying something it shouldn’t have said.

Missteps will happen. Some do a good job of apologizing (Southwest) while others not so much (United). Southwest’s apology was immediate and sincere, while it took United three attempts to finally begin to get it right.

So, what makes a good apology? Here are some elements it should include:

  • It should be timely: The apology should quickly follow the misstep.
  • In these days of social media, news—good or bad—can spread like wildfire.
  • Brands no longer have days, or even hours, to come up with an apology. They have to act fast. And, it’s important to get it right on the first try. If it takes you several tries (like United), you risk losing even more favor with the public.
  • It should be sincere: It goes without saying that the apology should be heartfelt and genuine. Yet, when people find themselves in a situation in which they need to apologize, they’ll often deny any wrongdoing. Why?

“Denial is the simple thing to do, and people grasp wildly at the first straw to occur to them,” said William Benoit, Ohio University Communications professor and author of Accounts, Excuses, Apologies: Image Repaid Theory and Research.

It wasn’t until Oscar Munoz, United’s CEO, appeared on Good Morning America using words like “shame” and “embarrassment” that he began to come across as more remorseful. And, United announced it would refund the fares of all the passengers on the affected flight, a gesture illustrating empathy.

  • You should take responsibility for your actions: If you’ve done something wrong, say so. Admit your error. Don’t make excuses or try to shift the blame. There’s an appreciation for simply saying, “We messed up—and we’re sorry.” Experts agree this is one of the best ways to begin rebuilding trust.
  • Just say it, plain and simple: No need to use fancy words. Simple terms are best. It’s better to use words that reflect language your audience relates to. Don’t use industry jargon.
  • Include an explanation of what happened: If it’s warranted, explaining what happened can also help folks understand—and perhaps be more forgiving.

For example, when it was revealed that PricewaterhouseCoopers was behind the debacle at the Academy Awards this year, the next day, not only did they apologize, but they offered an explanation of what happened. This helped them mend fences with the Academy.

If you need more examples, check out SorryWatch, where founders Susan McCarthy and Marjorie Ingall review public apologies each week and give advice on structure and language. For instance, they recently took a stab at dissecting Equifax’s attempt at apologizing.

And what’s the one most important piece of advice Ingall gives? If you make a mistake, don’t make excuses. “Apologizing well means acknowledging that, at that moment at least, you were not good,” says Ingall.

After all, everyone makes mistakes. It’s how you apologize that matters.”

What do you think? Do you have a problem with something that was sent via social media? Let’s talk about how to start making it right for your audience and brand. – Sabrina
