“A vision board is a visual representation of what you are creating and want in your life now and in the future (your goals and desires). It is a visual map that you design to literally create a path to your success.” – Joyce Schwarz
By creating a vision board, you are telling the universe, as well as your conscious and un-conscious mind exactly what it is you desire.
I am not only a big believer and long time user of vision boards, I’m also a certified vision board coach from Joyce Schwarz, author of The Vision Board. This is a brief overview of the “traditional” Vision Board.
I have developed several different modern vision boards or “desire board” techniques that are very easy to use. Some boards will involve online tools like Pinterest, a pin board, a magnetic board, or a simple pen and paper!
A Vision Board is a very simple yet powerful tool. Think of Pinterest as a big vision board! We pin the things we love and we hope one day to see, or have, or be.

I’ve been doing vision boards since college. It is an amazing way to lay out the future in pictures.
A vision board is just a physical and visual object that expresses the things you want or the changes that you want to bring to your life. Your vision board can be on a piece of paper or a poster board. It could be pinned to a private or public board on Pinterest …the possibilities are endless. I’m excited to show you so many examples of how to do easy and unique Vision Boards.
A classic vision board that is created on heavy drawing paper or a poster board. On the “board” you will paste images and words that you have torn from various magazines. You can also use markers to write positive quotes and affirmations.
Make sure you are free of distractions for an hour and really have the focus and time to enjoy creating. You can do this alone or with family and friends. Gather all of your materials: poster board, glue stick, scissors, magazines (Forbes, Essence, Fortune, Fast Money or any magazines that you have), a computer to print and search for images. These steps are a combination of curated vision board material and my own vision board material rolled into 6 great steps.

This is a great example of a Vision Board that is simply filled with meaningful images. Enjoy this curated article from Primped by Yasemin Trollope.
Call you what you like – inspiration board, vision board, pictures you love – but the fact is, pinning and posting images that represent your ideal future and inspire you is a great way to get your head into the right space to keep you focused and driven. -Yasemin Trollope, Primped
Learning comes in three distinct ways: auditory (with your ears), visual (with your eyes) and kinaesthetic (by physically doing something) and an inspiration board is a wonderful, visual way of creating, learning and ‘seeing’ the life you want to live right in front of you.
Here’s how you go about creating one…
Gather all the practical necessities such as glue, a pin board, scissors, magazines and even postcards. It’s also nice to have tactile things on your board as well, so think glitter (magic dust?), textures, patterns and prints you like, as well as trinkets that take your eye.
Not sure what board you want to create? There are many different ways to go about it but the three most common are:
1. The Circle of Life Board: This is where you post images and tactile items that represent your past on the outside edge of your board, followed by images of your present next to that, and images that represent your future in the middle.
2. The Single Focus Dream Board: If you know that you’re meant to be with a tall, dark haired man with blue eyes and have three babies, then this is the board for you. The single focus dream board has one clear focus, be it your career, relationship, money or travel plans, for example. Simply find images and trinkets that represent this dream and create a board that gives you daily visual cues towards reaching that goal.
3. The ‘I’m Open’ Board: Another option is simply to piece together random images and tactile items that resonate with you. There may not be a common theme or a particular dream involved, rather an orchestra of great things that make you feel good when you look at them.
Now that you have an idea of what board you want to create, it’s time to gather all your materials. Go through magazines, Pinterest and even old photos to find words, images and visual references of things that mean something to your life. Once you’ve done that, start piecing them together until you’re happy with the layout of your board.
Now it’s time to glue or pin your items down and perfect your board so it’s a trigger of positivity for you. Hang it somewhere where you can see it everyday, for a constant source of positivity and inspiration.
