Break Time On My Time

By Sabrina Espinal November 25, 2019

The other day I wanted to make a cup of tea with milk. I walked to the kitchen and realized that I was out of milk and quickly decided that I would go back to my computer and continue working.

Then I thought about all of the people in traditional jobs that were taking 15-20 minute breaks twice a day. Part of the perks of being on your own is that you can do what you want. But how many of us don’t take advantage of any a lifestyle where you make the rules?

So, I got up from my computer, put on my lipstick and left home to spend a little time in a near-by French Pastry shop, Financier Patisserie, for a hot cup of tea and a little conversation.

According to Meg Selig at Psychology Today…

Breaks increase productivity and creativity.

Working for long stretches without breaks leads to stress and exhaustion. Taking breaks refreshes the mind, replenishes your mental resources, and helps you become more creative. “Aha moments” came more often to those who took breaks, according to research.

Taking a break is good for the mind and soul. Now, if only I’d remembered to stop by the market and pick up milk!
