Why do you want your business to Twitter? This question has been asked many times before and it is still very valid. Some companies have answers and some just want to Tweet because others are doing it. This leads me to the bigger question, “What is Twitter?” Most companies really don’t have an answer and hope that:
- It is a quick way to sell their overstock of microwave ovens
- It makes them look hip (but remember that Social Media is not a fad)
- It just gets them in the game (whatever the game is)
But it is a little more complicated than that. Twitter is one of many Social Media tools that can be different things to different businesses with a mixture of outcomes. That is why a Social Media assessment should be taken and analyzed to determine the purpose and audience for that first Tweet. Measures of success should be put in place for all Social Media activities to determine which channels are yielding the best return on investment and return on influence (Thank you Jacob Morgan!)
Twitter is a conversation and sharing of information that can lead to real life actions. So, yes, it can help you get rid of your microwave ovens, just not overnight.
We give small business owners Social Media Assessments and manage their online presence.
