Twitter to LinkedIn – Be Careful!

The hope is that LinkedIn users will tweet info to Twitter and vice versa. Some people really shouldn’t do this…and you know who you are!  The other people should take a minute and think about it.  Your employer may not always be able to find you on Twitter but now they will. Our 15 minutes of fame is now lasting a lot longer.

Understand, if you don’t do this right, every single tweet will update your status on LinkedIn!

You also have two additional options of installing a Twitter box and a Company Buzz box on your LinkedIn profile.

If you opt to turn on the STATUS feature remember to do this:

Twitter to LinkedIn – Log into LinkedIn

  1. Click on Profile
  2. Click on Edit Profile
  3. In the Twitter section click on Edit and check off “Share only tweets that contain #in”

(Only the hashtag tweets  of #in or #li will go to Linked status)

LinkedIn to Twitter – Log into LinkedIn

  1. Click  on Home
  2. Update your status and if you want it to feed to Twitter, check the Twitter box

Two LinkedIn Accounts? It Happens!

I first noticed a strange email that said I had 7 unread messages in LinkedIn. When I popped over to my Inbox, all of my messages were read. Then a few weeks later I received that same message and I decided to do a little investigating.  I searched for my name on LinkedIn and two accounts appeared. I certainly did not sign up for two accounts and it happen when I changed my email address in my LinkedIn profile.  The annoying part is that invitations were going to my old LinkedIn account that I had never seen. So, this could happen to you. Don’t miss any chances to join a new network!

Do you want to check for duplicate accounts in LinkedIn?

I have summarized the instructions from LinkedIn but please review the links below before deleting your duplicate account.

  1. Type your name in “Search” and the “You” icon will show your current logged in account
  2. The email address of your other account will be displayed. Now log out of LinkedIn an log in under the other email address (if you forgot your password, just click on “Forgot Password”)
  3. Export your contacts from the LinkedIn account you no longer want to use:
    1. Click on “Contacts” on the left hand tool bar
    2. At the bottom on the page click on “Export Connections”
    3. Save the file as a Microsoft Outlook (.csv file) on your computer
    4. Once your accounts have been exported, click on “Account & Settings”
    5. Click on “Close your Account” under “Personal Information”
    6. Select “duplicate account” as the reason for closing your account
    7. Click on “Continue” and “Verify Account”
