Today (6/30/2010) is our first global Social Media Day sponsored by Mashable.

Why is this really big? Because this event is another signal that the way we communicate has changed forever. Communications has morphed and shifted into a new baby being…(or bing!) and will continue to do so in quiet little steps.

Many people move through their day without realizing that they are involved in social networking. Think about a Mom pushing her baby cart around the park. Now…take a closer look…is she also looking at her iPhone? Did she just check for kid friendly restaurants on Foursquare or was she just leaving a quick review of Babies R Us on Yelp?

Facebook Fan Page Updates

Do you want to send a message to all of your Fans or a target base of your Fans? Here is how you can easily accomplish this task from the edit view of your page.

Page Admins can update their fans about new Page content, promotions, upcoming events, and more. Pages can send messages to either their entire fan base or target their update to fans in a specific demographic. The messages Pages send their fans will appear in the “Updates” tab of a user’s Inbox.

The “target this update” option will allow Page Admins to target their update by location, sex, and age. Only fans in the target group selected will receive the update from the Page.

Navigate to your Page.
Click “Edit Page” beneath the profile picture.
Scroll down to the “Promote Your Page” section, located beneath

“Insights” and above “Admins” on the right column.

Click “Send an Update to fans.”

Facebook’s New Design 10/23/09

Something New

No, you are not losing your mind! Facebook has made a few fresh changes. Facebook’s latest design was released on October 23, 2009 and it will allow you to do the following:

Toggle between two views: your News Feed from the Highlights section and the Live Feed (your real-time feed from your friends).
You can edit what appears in that feed via an “Edit Options” link at the bottom of the page.
Older items have returned to the News Feed, including photo tag info and friends becoming fans of Pages.
Birthdays and events and now in the right column of your home page. Yea!!

Facebook Thumbnail Photo

Adjust your thumbnail

Most people don’t realize that you can easily adjust your “thumbnail” photo in Facebook. Does your thumbnail look a little off center or do you want it to be off center for a more dramatic effect?
Here is a quick fix!
1. Hover on the top right hand corner of your main full-size photo (you will see a pencil)
2. Click on “change picture”
3. Click on “edit thumbnail”
4. Adjust (drag) the view of the thumbnail photo in the pop-up box and click on “save”
5. Now, just double click on your “thumbnail” photo and it will adjust to the new view!
Don’t like it? Repeat the process. Also works for “thumbnail” photos on Fan Pages
