Social Media Day

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

Today (6/30/2010) is our first global Social Media Day sponsored by  Mashable.

Why is this really big?  Because this event is another signal that the way we communicate has changed forever. Communications has morphed and shifted into a new baby being…(or bing!) and will continue to do so in quiet little steps.

Many people move through their day without  realizing  that they are involved in social networking.  Think about a Mom pushing her baby cart around the park.  Now…take a closer look…is she also looking at her iPhone?  Did she just check for kid friendly restaurants on Foursquare or was she just leaving a quick review of  Babies R Us on Yelp?

If you are just beginning to take notice of Social Media, that’s great! Chances are you are already involved and don’t even know it!

ASK ME!

Let me make it easy for you to ask the basic questions along with learning what ”all of this” can do for your personal brand and business.  Let me tell you how to protect yourself and your family as you decide what and how to share on your social networks.

Social is good.

Facebook Fan Page Updates

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

Do you want to send a message to all of your Fans or a target base of your Fans?  Here is how you can easily accomplish this task from the edit view of your page.

Page Admins can update their fans about new Page content, promotions, upcoming events, and more. Pages can send messages to either their entire fan base or target their update to fans in a specific demographic. The messages Pages send their fans will appear in the “Updates” tab of a user’s Inbox.

The “target this update” option will allow Page Admins to target their update by location, sex, and age. Only fans in the target group selected will receive the update from the Page.

  1. Navigate to your Page.
  2. Click “Edit Page” beneath the profile picture.
  3. Scroll down to the “Promote Your Page” section, located beneath
  4. “Insights” and above “Admins” on the right column.

  5. Click “Send an Update to fans.”

Hope this helps and remember that we can manage Facebook and all your social media networks at Sabrina&Company Social Media Marketing.

Don’t Let Amateurs Handle Social Media

Wednesday, March 17th, 2010

Why would you utilize a revolving door solution to communicate the heart and soul of your brand?

Don’t let your interns or friends  handle your Social Media.  I’ve heard it before.  “I have a friend who’s going to help me with my social media” or “I’m going to use an Intern to do our social media”.

Wrong approach. Wrong Strategy.  Just wrong. Social Media is complicated and must be managed with synergy across all networks.

Have you ever notice websites, fan pages and twitter accounts that suddenly go silent?  Interns are with your company for a few months and friends are friends.  Leaving your message to inexperienced people will leave your customers hanging in cyberspace waiting for answers and conversations with the brand they love. Take the time to find a company that will handle your brand with care.

What to look for in a Social Media Manager:

  1. Certification in Social Media Marketing
  2. Willingness to research, understand and care for your brand
  3. Presentation of a customized social media  community interaction plan for your business
  4. Solid at making recommendations and updating your social media plan
  5. Professional who has great communication and customer service skills
  6. Ongoing training and thought leadership insights

Look for a Social Media Manager that will give you a planned strategy and that will easily grow and adapt to your company events.  Always seeks a social media professional who will respect your brand and who can seamlessly manage and grow your community across networks.

Hiding from Google Bots

Every picture that is loaded on the Internet is just a “right click” away from being saved on someone’s computer…forever. Our Tweets are picked up and loaded on Google and now employers are trying to look at candidate’s Facebook profiles.  What are we going to do?  Are we going to take a step back from “fun” and “hide” our friends and post only serious remarks? Well, I like fun!  I like the fact that I have a place to connect with the people that I grew up with and the friends that are so dear to my heart. Please understand that I would never have crazy pictures or language on my page but I do upload pictures from my phone to Facebook and I do laugh and respond to my friends. I know the Google bots have pulled images of me from Facebook and stored them in their image library.  (Note to parents: Google your kids and click on “Images”…if you dare.)

Facebook is serious and so is Social Media and you do need to select your words and pictures to manage your image and personal brand. I do hope that I can still enjoy Facebook (without dropping my friends) but we all have to remember that we are living in a social media world and we are our own Paparazzi.

P.S. I’ll let you know when the Google bots add Chavez.  He is trying protect his brand.
