Networking Tips
Thursday, August 20th, 2009
Networking, we all know what it is but when you only have a few minutes before running off to your next appointment; try these tips when you run into someone you want as a client:
- Have an elevator pitch - Sincere hello, your name and what you can offer. Be ready to let them know how you have helped others and don’t talk too much. Ask about their business and offer to stay in contact. Offer your business card, if it is appropriate, or wait until you see them again to offer your card.
- Don’t talk about business – Sometimes it is ok to just talk about everything but business to build a relationship. Get to know people before rushing into a business deal.
- Plan a good old fashion “happy hour”-Find a location that offers great space (for free) and invite your contacts. Buy a few happy hour priced appetizers and let the party begin. You will become the key person for putting together the event. Remember to get everyone’s business card and follow up with an email or tweet.

Six quick desk organizing tips!
Thursday, August 13th, 2009
When you sit down at your desk how long does it take you to find something? Are you looking through the drawers, the files and the stack of “organized” papers? Have you gone paperless but you still can’t locate were you saved that file? Well, you are not alone. Busy small biz owners are taking care of their customers during the day and looking through all of their paperwork at night. I don’t have the magic answer for everyone but I do have a few suggestions to help you start organizing your desk. - Create short cuts on your computer desktop to save time.
- Try to touch your incoming mail and paperwork just two times. If you touch it more than twice you are just pushing paper around.
- Get the right office supplies to manage your business needs. Always label and file your important documents.
- Sign up for a free eFax number and let your faxes go directly into your email.
- Schedule time with yourself to take care of the administrative side of your business.
- Don’t be afraid to ask for help and then run and get a cup of coffee!
“Being organized is being powerful” I don’t know who said this but I am going to write it down…as soon as I can find my pen!
Hope this helps!

Addicted to your PDA and Twitter
Wednesday, August 12th, 2009
This morning I decided to go to the grocery store without reading my pink blackberry and walking at the same time. Wow, that was really hard to do but after several minutes I was able to enjoy the view and smile at the people that were heads down in their PDA’s. This brings me to the very frustrating little birdie called Twitter. Polly want a cracker or what? I take care of Twitter for my clients and I feel like a caged bird waiting to be released. I think this is a message to all of us to not become too addicted to something that seems so harmless because when it is taken away – we go crazy!! I am still waiting on the sick birdie. I love it when Twitter tells me to “chillax” but I just want to tell Twitter to “let my people go” and let us back into our accounts. Tweet Tweet
